Volunteer Mentors Needed

mentor

Thank you for your interest in the Heart Gallery mentor Program. We are looking for dedicated, caring members of our community like you to help make the difference in the lives of foster youth in Lane County ages 13-21. We have (1) youth to (1) mentor.

There is a great need for committed, caring adults from our community to mentor youth in foster care. Many of these youth are aging out of foster care without community resources, knowledge and people in their lives. They need community resources and caring community members to help them in the path of independence so they can become successful adults.

The commitment is for 1 year and can be longer for at least 10 hours a month. You, as a mentor will guide the youth and be a resource. You will work close with the youth's entire care team (caseworker, foster parents, youth and etc.

I am a former foster youth myself that aged out of foster care system. I have decided to dedicate my life to giving back to other youth in foster care. I am currently a foster parent, working on an adoption and a step-mom. My husband and I have a total of 3 children. I believe strongly in this program and my vision is that every youth aging out of foster care will leave with knowledge, community resources and people that care about them.

The heart felt reward is so amazing to see a youth in foster care age out and become a success in adulthood. It takes a little effort to make the difference that is needed in their lives.

The Heart Gallery will offer various trainings, classes and events to help you on your journey. We work close with DHS and comply with all regulations set forth by the State.
