A Family For Every Child

October 2010

Kashari

Age 12

Skyler

Kashari is an intelligent, talkative and fun child. She enjoys speaking with adults as well as other children. She is also a good listener who pays attention! Her CASA adds that she often has a funny comment or perceptive insight to add to the discussion. She is comfortable and poised in casual settings and responsive to a range of people including children, family relatives, her therapist, her CASA, and foster family members.

Kashari is an affectionate child who develops strong attachments to people who show maturity, stability, and that they care for her. She has a strong sense of loyalty and absolutely loves babies. She has a lovely singing voice and has wanted to play the saxophone. Kashari is resilient and loves learning new things, going to new places, and meeting new people. She welcomes new experiences, and has an innate curiosity about life. Kashari would love to go on an airplane, travel out of state, and visit the beach.

Ryland

Age 6

Skyler

Ryland is a sweet child who loves to be silly. He loves to go camping, biking and swimming. He truly enjoys being outdoors as often as the weather permits. Ryland loves Spiderman and other action figures.

Ryland is an excellent eater. Some of Ryland's favorite foods are cheeseburgers and pizza. He is not a picky eater but could live without meatloaf!

Ryland enjoys playing with the dogs that live with the foster parents. He is good with them and likes different animals. Ryland will do best with a family that has parenting experience and the ability to work with their local school system.

Ryland would do well with a family who has some older children that could be role models for him. He plays well with children that are a bit younger than he is. Ryland is a little immature for his age. Ryland is excited to find stability in his life and have a home and family to call his own.

 Jordan tate

Jordan and Tate

Ages 13, 6

Jordan and Tate are a wonderful and adoring sibling group. They both have unique personalities and individual differences. Jordan wants to be adopted and is excited to think about the possibility of starting over. Tate is very loving and open to new relationships. These siblings are ready and wanting to join a new family.

Jordan is a lovely young lady with long brown hair and almond shaped brown eyes. Jordan loves to sing and dance. Similar to many teen girls, Jordan enjoys Hanna Montana, High School Musical and the Twilight Series, she is on team Edward! Jordan says the thing that makes her most happy is shopping. Her interests include having friends come over and hanging out with her same age cousin.

Jordan has an interest in reading fantasy inspired books. If she had three wishes granted, Jordan would choose to have a cell phone, have her own room, and to meet one of her favorite television stars. Jordan has become more outgoing and vibrant since her placement in stable relative care.

Tate is a handsome boy with brown hair and sparkling blue/green eyes. He is an active boy with a lot of energy. Some of Tate's favorite things are Hot Wheels, Transformers, and Bakons. His favorite transformers are Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee. He also likes anything with wheels. Tate is a sweet boy who is focused on playing and his caretakers. He enjoys playing outdoors and with playmates.

Jordan and Tate have a very close relationship. They have experienced a difficult family life and their relationship has been an important part of surviving emotionally. Although they bicker like normal siblings, Jordan is very protective of Tate. They can't imagine living separately. Jordan is an adolescent and is beginning to exert her individuality and independence which may impact the sibling connection.

Jordan and Tate need stable, loving, and consistent caregivers that have the ability to meet their physical, behavioral, and emotional needs on a full-time long term basis. They need vigilant caretakers who will check in with the children to ensure their needs are being met.

The children need a safe and nurturing environment where they feel safe and secure. The children need caretakers who have an understanding of trauma behaviors and interventions for non-compliant behaviors. The caregivers should have good stress management/coping skills and a strong support system.

Jordan and Tate need a family who will work to maintain the connection with the children's relatives. Jordan and Tate are a sibling group who will be rewarding members for the right family. The children need a committed family who is prepared for the challenges and happiness that these children will bring.

Kayla and Olyvia

Ages 8, 3

Kayla and Olyvia are an adorable and fun set of sisters. Kayla is a sweet, friendly and kind-hearted girl. She likes to help others and seek out adult attention. She has an easy laugh and is often smiling. Kayla likes to be outside and play basketball or run with the foster family dog. She enjoys going to school and church. She is well-liked by others and loves animals.

Olyvia is described as ''a character'' with lots of charisma. She is very social and talkative. Olyvia loves pink and ''dressing up''. She likes to play with Barbies, Hot Wheel cars, and going to church. Olivia enjoys playing outside with the dog. She can be mischievous and spunky which is part of her charm.

The children enjoy visiting their older brothers and talking to them on the phone. The boys come to the parent visits at times and the children have a sibling bond. Kayla and Olyvia are very bonded and have always lived together.

Olyvia and Kayla's foster mother feels they are likable girls who are at a good place in their life to be adopted as they still trust adults. She feels they would make a nice addition to a family. Their adoptive family will need to be able to provide structure, supervision, nurturing, and consistency. They will need to be patient and understanding regarding the girls' impulsive behaviors and their history of multiple caregivers.

It may take the girls some time to understand what permanency means for them. The family would need to be able to seek out services and advocate for the girls as needs arise. Safe contact with their brothers would be ideal (particularly for Kayla who has experienced many losses deeply) and be open to some possible safe contact with parents.

Professional Bulletin Photos

photo

By knowing how important a good photo is to recruitment, AFFEC is now offering to take professional photos for child bulletins. We are committed to a two week turn around (although caseworker or foster parent schedules may make this more difficult).

We have developed our statewide list of photographers that can (within a week of our call) photograph a child or sibling group. Within a week of images being taken, we will email the .jpg images to caseworkers. We then store all images for further recruitment tools if requested by the caseworker. All that is needed is the referral form linked below:

Volunteer Opportunities

Matching Assistant Program -

We have a newly created Matching Assistance Program. We have a director, but there are many elements to it such as marketing to parents, marketing to case workers and agencies. There are also roles in reaching out to other photo listings and building relationships to photo list their kids. We would love to have you join our team.

Web Listing Volunteer -

Web Process Volunteer -

Any available time. Signing on to our new logon site and acting as a family, writing script and suggestions that will help our site be more user friendly for families. Help to create web forms and other ways to assist families. Help to develop RSS feed tools, Twitter feeds and other ways families can get immediate information on children.

Newsletter Volunteer -

3 newsletters a week, 1-2 hours a newsletter. Using our outreach tool (Constant Contact) build templates for newsletters and outreach tools. As well as odds and ends announcements and email outreach for recruitment. (Possible newsletters themes-kids in need -resources -sites to visit - articles and updates on adoption)

Volunteer Adoption Specialist -

Would like each volunteer specialist to take on a # of families to represent and work with. 5-10 hours a week. Because of the training involved we ask you to be able to commit to 6 months. Have you wanted to be an adoption worker? Did you and your family struggle through the process and wish you had a liaison to assist you? Now is your chance to do that for another family. We will train you, provide materials and guidance to assist other families, help them create bio page, search for children, submit their studies, follow up with workers for them, and help build families.

Child Specialist -

Same as volunteer specialist above, several hours week over several days. Add kids to our database, make sure all need fields are checked, photo is added, remove children as needed.

Child Outreach Role -

Any number of hours you have. Contacting and building relationships with other photo listings to try and link each other, photo list their kids, build partnerships to help each other recruit for more kids.
