Brittany has spent many hours cuddling with her cat and dog by the television. Brittany enjoys all foods, and loves to snack between meals!! Brittany also wears glasses and is very polite young lady. She would like to be adopted in a home with her sister, Kristina having a wonderful adult female role model in whose footsteps she could follow.

Dasamere and Darnell

Ages 13, 12

Dasamere Darnell

Darnell is a friendly, playful and creative child. He likes to draw and work on arts-n-crafts projects. It comes as no surprise that his favorite subject in school is Art. Darnell enjoys being active and spending time outdoors. In addition to playing basketball, baseball and soccer, he also loves to read, play video games and collect Pokemon cards. Darnell loves to eat. His favorite food is French fries.

Darnell enjoys going to school. Although it is sometimes difficult for him to concentrate and focus on assignments, he tries very hard to complete them accurately. Darnell's emotionality greatly affects his daily functioning. Darnell can be impulsive and active at times, however, he can also be calm and attentive. Darnell responds well to praise and is at his best when presented with a challenge.

Darnell has experienced many losses in his early childhood. Supportive services are provided to help him manage his emotions and express his feelings in an appropriate manner.

Darnell is in search of an adoptive family that will allow him to be creative but provide the love, structure and stability he needs. The family also needs to be open to Darnell maintaining his close relationship with his adoptive brother, Dasamere.

Dasamere is a well-mannered child who likes to read and go to the movies. He also likes to fish and play soccer. He is a good listener and responds well to redirection. He is capable of establishing and maintaining appropriate relationships with peers and adults. Dasamere enjoys interacting and playing with other children, especially his adoptive brother Darnell. Dasamere enjoys going to school. Staying on task and completing assignments are major challenges for him. Dasamere has set short term goals dealing with socialization, coping skills and just learning to take things one day at a time. Dasamere feels that one of his strengths is that he is a good learner. When asked the question if he would rather play a game with someone who was better or worse at the game, he replied, "better so he could learn". Dasamere has experienced many losses and disappointments on the road to permanency. However, he is provided supportive services which include counseling and a mentoring program to help him deal with his emotions in a positive way.

Dasamere wants to be adopted and is looking for a loving family with lots of patience, while maintaining consistency and structure. Dasamere has a very close relationship with his adoptive brother Darnell. It is important that the family be willing to assist Dasamere in maintaining this relationship.

Similar to many teen girls, Jordan enjoys Hanna Montana, High School Musical and the Twilight Series, she is on team Edward! Jordan says that the thing that makes her most happy is shopping. Her interests include having friends come over and hanging out with her same age cousin.

Jordan has an interest in reading fantasy inspired books. If she had three wishes granted, Jordan would choose to have a cell phone, have her own room, and to meet one of her favorite television stars. Jordan has become more outgoing and vibrant since her placement in stable relative care.

Tate is a handsome boy with brown hair and sparkling blue/green eyes. He is an active boy with a lot of energy. Some of Tate's favorite things are Hot Wheels, Transformers, and Bakons. His favorite transformers are Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee. He also likes anything with wheels. Tate is a sweet boy who is focused on playing and his caretakers. Although they bicker like normal siblings, Jordan is very protective of Tate. They can't imagine living separately. Jordan is an adolescent and is beginning to exert her individuality and independence which may impact the sibling connection.

Jordan and Tate need stable, loving, and consistent caregivers that have the ability to meet their physical, behavioral, and emotional needs on a full-time long term basis. They need vigilant caretakers who will check in with the children to ensure their needs are being met.

The children need a safe and nurturing environment where they feel safe and secure. The children need caretakers who have an understanding of trauma behaviors and interventions for non-compliant behaviors. The caregivers should have good stress management/coping skills and a strong support system.

Jordan and Tate need a family who will work to maintain the connection with the children's relatives. Jordan and Tate are a sibling group who will be rewarding members for the right family. The children need a committed family who is prepared for the challenges and happiness that these children will bring.

 Angel in Need

We connect with many folks all over the country in their adoption journeys.  Families, workers, volunteers and youth. There is so much need and so many that want to do the right thing and be a part of the solutions. Today I want to tell you about a special girl in need of an angel/mentor in her area.

Michelle wrote me from a school computer, as she was doing a research report on organizations that make a difference. She picked us.  She sent me many questions and I sent her a response to help her with a High School term paper.  Our correspondence was limited due to class time being her only access to a computer. It became quite aware to me that what she really needed was not a term paper, but a friend.  She told me she was in 11th grade and had an 8-month-old son and was staying in school, and had no one to talk to.  She really wants and needs a job, but even more a mentor/friend and someone to care, advise and share some wisdom. It can be hard to admit those things, I have been impressed with her courage.

Since she is clear across the country, I am broadcasting this in the most effective way we have, our newsletter.  I am never disappointed by the caring hearts of our supporters.  If you live near her, know someone that does, please contact me: christy@afamilyforeverychild.o

rg

She lives in Argos, Indiana (near Rochester and Plymouth)

Thank you for being part of the solution!

Darius and Shaquan

Ages 18, 16

Darius and Shaquan are loads of fun to be with. Darius, the oldest of the siblings, is independent, confident and self assertive. This teen is smart and has many talents. He is artistic and likes to make things with his hands. He also enjoys participating in a basketball league, watching sports, skateboarding, dancing and going to the movies or shows. Although Darius' favorite subject in school is math, he likes to attend workshop where his creativity shines! This thoughtful teen often gives the things he makes to his brother. Darius would like more than anything to be reunited with his brother, Shaquan. Because of the many years Darius spent caring for himself and his sibling, he is very headstrong, but is also a sensitive person. He needs to know that he and his brother will be taken care of by the family that will open their home to them.

Shaquan, like his brother is just as creative, athletic and talented. He has a wonderful smile that can light up a room. Shaquan enjoys playing basketball, listening to music, writing rap lyrics and making music C.D.'s. Shaquan can be shy and timid when you first meet him. However, once he is comfortable, he is very talkative and enjoys making people laugh. He interacts well with others. This caring, protective, lovable and charismatic youngster wants to be adopted with his brother, Darius. The siblings wish for a home where they can live and grow together.

Darius and Shaquan's dream is to be reunited and live in the same home. They would do best in a home where they are the only children so that they can receive individual attention, structure, support, but most of all unconditional love. Enjoyable and pleasant teens, they will be a great addition to any family.

Volunteers needed to help reconnect foster children with loved ones

The Family Finding model offers methods and strategies to locate and engage relatives of children living in foster care. The goal of Family Finding is to provide each child with the lifelong connections that only a family can offer. Family Finding volunteers work closely with caseworkers. They perform file mining, make phone calls, and search the internet for relatives or other meaningful people in the child's life. While each case is different, the typical case takes approximately three months to complete, and 5-10 hours a month in phone calls and research.

If you like playing detective, then this is the position for you! Most roles can be performed from a distance and we provide all the training.

Current Needs:

Spanish speaking volunteer: We are in need of a Spanish speaking volunteer and have deserving children waiting for the right person! Family Finding volunteers work closely with caseworkers. They perform file mining, make phone calls, and search the internet for relatives or other meaningful people in the child's life. While each case is different, the typical case takes approximately three months to complete, and approximately 5-10 hours a month in phone calls and research. All training is provided. This volunteer does NOT need to be local.

Follow-up volunteer: This volunteer follows up on cases after the children have been reconnected with their loved ones. Follow-ups consist of phone calls and data entry. Follow-ups are made in 3, 6, 9, and 12 month intervals. All training is provided. This volunteer does NOT need to be local.

Family Finding Expert: Needed to learn and perform Genograms on our Family Finding Cases. We will supply the program, but will need a volunteer, distance or local, that can learn it and perform this tool on our cases for us.

We are also always in need of volunteers that can do one part or all of a case (file mining, Internet research, calling relatives).

Please let us know if you are at all interested in this innovative way to not only get kids out of foster care, but to help reconnect them to lost loved ones!

Other Volunteer Needs

Our mission is to find loving, permanent families for waiting foster children.  As a non-profit our work takes hundreds of volunteer hours, without these amazing people our work would not be a success!  We value each and every one of our volunteers and cannot thank you enough for your thoughtful consideration.

Submission Team:

We send nearly 700 home studies each month to various caseworkers for families who are waiting to be selected. To do this it takes many volunteer hours from people who can pay attention to detail and are able to email and attach files. This position takes someone who is able to come to our office and can range anywhere from 3 to 20 hours a week, depending on your availability.  While this work takes a lot of time, it is highly rewarding, especially when you get to see a family chosen for a child!

Office Assistance:

We are in need of a few people who can assist with filing, answering phones, checking references and other various tasks. All training will be provided. This person would ideally be able to volunteer 2 - 5 hours per week.

Venue Volunteers:

Another tool we use for recruiting for children is our local venues. You may have seen these around the area (if you reside in Oregon). We display photos of available and waiting children with bio information in restaurants, doctors and dentist's offices, airports, grocery stores and the like. We are currently in need of several venue volunteers in the Eugene and surrounding area. All photos and needs are supplied by our organization. This basically consists of picking up your new photos, going to the venue and swapping them out with the old.

Foster Support Meeting Volunteer:

Twice a month we hold meetings at Boys and Girls Aide for current foster families.  We would love to have one or two volunteers that would commit to spending time with the kids while their foster parents are in support meetings. It would be ideal to have college age volunteers who are willing to play with and support these kids. The meetings are generally two hours and are on every other Thursday evening.

Volunteer Family Adoption Specialists:

We have a Matching Assistance Program that partners with families that are currently in the adoption process. This program is geared towards families who have not yet had a placement and have been in the process for a year or longer.  The goal of this program and the task of the Family Adoption Specialist is to walk alongside families in their journey. Give them feedback on their family profile page, perform child searches for them, correspond with caseworkers and their behalf and surround them with resources and encouragement. While this may sound as a though it's a difficult position please note that all training is provided by our organization and requires only that you are consistent and compassionate.  If you excel in communicating, following up and have the capacity to give 5 hours a week per family, we would love to have you.  We ask for a 6 month commitment as families need as much consistency as possible.

Child Listing Specialists:

We are currently working to partner with several other states and their photo listing agencies to list more children on our public and non-public sites. We are currently in need of several volunteers who would be willing to help list children in our database and on our sites. While this may sound as though it's a difficult task, all training is provided and only requires an ability to pay attention to detail. Any number of hours would be great for this position.
