Jawon
Jawon
is a very polite and honest little boy. He is more
of an introvert than an extrovert. Jawon can be
affectionate and at times may appear needy. He
prefers to spend his time with teenagers and
adults; people he can look to for role modeling
and support. Jawon thrives on one on one attention
and feels secure in a structured and consistent
environment.
Jawon would seem to favor
activities which are indoors versus outdoors.
Jawon loves to play with his Gameboy DS and some
of his favorite games include Mario Brothers and
Kung-fu. He also enjoys playing with Legos,
watching childrens movies like Ninja Turtles, or
playing with remote control cars. If outdoors, he
likes to ride his bike.
Jawon has brown
eyes and dark brown hair, which he is wearing
long. Jawon has a dark mocha complexion and
beautiful skin. Jawon also has a very engaging
smile.
Jawon needs a family that is able to
provide him with much love and individual
attention. Jawon needs a home that is structured
and consistent so that he may feel safe and
secure. One that understands the affects of the
neglect and abuse he has suffered. Lastly, Jawon
needs a family that will allow him to have some
form of openness with his brother and potentially
his
mother. |

Age
8
Daniel
is a lively and engaging boy with a slender, wiry
build, and plenty of energy. He has beautiful blue
eyes, short blond hair, and a big smile. He wears
glasses to help with his distance vision.
It
takes Daniel a while to feel comfortable with new
people, but once he does he is very affectionate
and loves to talk. Daniel has a great sense of
humor, but also has a serious side. When he is
nervous or anxious, Daniel shows this by being
less cooperative and trying to control the
situation. When he is feeling secure, he is able
to relax and enjoy himself.
At school,
Daniel loves his teacher and responds well to her.
He has spent time with his teacher outside of
school and very much enjoyed this. His teacher has
also noted Daniel has difficulty with
transitions and struggles with staying on task. He
attends a small, country school and is well liked
by his peers. He is good at math and is able to
learn games like cribbage and Uno readily (he
enjoys playing games with adults, especially when
he wins!).
Daniel
is working at grade level in math and writing. He
is progressing toward grade level in reading and
he puts forth satisfactory effort.
He currently earns tickets for appropriate
behavior at school and on the bus. He is very
proud of his tickets and has a small reward at the
end of the week for receiving a ticket every day.
He has really achieved success with this and it
seems the focus on positive behavior works well
for him.
Daniel needs experienced
caregivers who are able to work with service
providers and advocate for Daniel's therapeutic
needs. He needs a family who has a predictable,
consistent routine and is able to provide a high
degree of nurturing. A family who will accept
him for who he is, while encouraging him to reach
his full potential. He enjoys family activities
such as bike riding and fishing, so an active
family would be a
plus.
Daniel
would do best in a home with no children close to
his age so he would not feel the need to compete
for attention. The family should be open to some
type of ongoing contact between Daniel's sister
and half-brother. Daniel is very desirous of
belonging. He has had to make too many moves in
his young life and deserves the stability
and permanence of a forever
family.

Matching
Assistance Coming Soon!
We
would like to introduce our new Matching
Assistance Program. This program was created in
order to aid families through the adoption
process. We are committed to assisting families,
caseworkers and adoption workers in the effort to
place children in adoptive homes.
We
understand that adoption workers, and caseworkers
as well, have very high case loads and many simply
do not have the time and resources to recruit for
one family day in and day out. That is where AFFEC
steps in. With the Matching Assistance Program,
families now have options!
We
have two new options COMING
SOON!

Meet
Cierra and Asia! These sisters are two
attractive, intelligent, energetic girls with
lots of heart and potential and great unique
personalities to match. When asked about what's
important to them, both girls say, ''I want to
live with my sister.''
Cierra is a very
bright nine-year-old girl with energy to
burn. She is learning to take care of her very
curly hair by herself, although she still needs
help and supervision. Cierra loves school and
enjoys learning and is a quick study; she still
remembers how to write many Chinese characters
from a previous program she was in, and
also liked being in a school musical this
year.
A great way for Cierra to control
her energy is to stay physically active. She
enjoys swimming, gardening, ballet, Tae Kwon Do,
gymnastics class, art, and playing on the
computer. She likes to ride her bike and always
remembers her helmet. Despite living through
some very difficult situations and experiencing
some profound losses both in and out of foster
care, Cierra has kept herself together quite
well and is very resilient.
Asia
is five-years-old. She has been saying she
is five since she was four! Asia has been
in pre-school and Head Start and, like her
sister, loves to learn and is a quick study.
Asia is also not afraid to speak up for
something she believes in. When she's upset, she
will muster up all of the courage her little
body can hold and say, ''That's not ok!'' Asia
is a very good eater and sleeper, and, also like
her sister, needs lots of physical activity to
keep her busy. Asia has been in ballet,
swimming, and martial arts.
She will
start Kindergarten in the fall. Asia also loves
to play dress up (especially if princess or
dance clothes are involved) and to put on
makeup. At night when she goes to bed, Asia
likes to be read a story and have the light left
on after being tucked in. She can take some time
to go to sleep.
Cierra and Asia should be
either the only children or the youngest
children in the home. Their therapeutic supports
should continue to help each child strengthen
their boundaries, learn personal safety, and
make safe decisions. Being willing to
participate with the girls in family counseling
during the adoption transition will demonstrate
the adoptive parents level of commitment for
Asia and Cierra. Consistent supervision and a
strong safety plan in the home will also be
necessary for the girls' health and
well-being.
Asia and Cierra are two great
little girls. Stability, safety, love, and
guidance will help them feel secure and will be
the keys to helping each child realize their
full
potential. |
Rubin
is an adorable, funny, charming and bright
little boy. In the beginning he appears to be
quiet and shy, but once he gets to know you
he displays his warm-hearted, caring and
gentle side. Rubin loves action figures and
video games. His favorites are Batman and
Spiderman. Rubin also loves cartoons. He is a
child who likes to be busy.
Rubin is a
slim, tall six-year-old. He has beautiful red
hair, and bright blue eyes. He has rosy cheeks
and is fair-skinned with light brown freckles.
He has a wonderful smile that lights up a
room.
Rubin will benefit from ongoing
counseling services as he transitions to a new
placement. He seems to benefit most from
consistency and structure. With appropriate
supportive services in place, Rubin should
continue to make progress.
The ideal
family for Rubin would be one who has experience
parenting children with special needs. Rubin
needs a family that can provide consistency,
routine, and structure. He needs a patient
family full of love and affection. Rubin needs a
forever family who will offer a lot of positive
reinforcement.
He will benefit from a
family that will make commitment to his
counseling services and medication management.
Rubin also needs a family that will allow him to
maintain an appropriate level of contact with
his birth father and
sister. |

This
support group is an open forum, a place for
pre-adoptive families, post-adoptive families,
foster families, and mentors. We have different
speakers each month that share experiences along

encourage each other through this
journey.

June 10th, the speaker will be Kalynn
Allen. Ms. Allen is
currently competing for Ms. Oregon,

an adopted child. She is truly an amazing
young lady. This is an open group, you may
invite others who you know would benefit from
attending this group. We are all here to
encourage and share with those going through the
process of being a foster parent, adoptive
parent or mentor.
On
June 24th, we will have a DHS worker speak about
the CANS Assessment and the adoption

Attention
Volunteers
We
need mentors for youth in foster care. Help
us make a difference in a child's life!
Here
is a request from a 16 year-old boy: a male
mentor, who can be supportive, give good advice,
good at sports, a good listener, and someone to
talk to. Can you be his mentor?
Do
you have a little extra time to give? He needs
you to encourage him to make good decisions!
This
is what this 16 year-old boy likes: reading,
drawing, skateboarding, riding/working on bikes,
and clothes shopping. He is open minded,
flexible, caring, considerate, kind, good with
animals, generous with elderly people. He also
enjoys golf, baseball, hanging out and
movies. His favorite treat is a homemade
blizzard.
You
can make a huge difference in a young man's
life, let's work together to help these
children. Click below for more information
on how to become a
mentor.
