The Matthews- Family Profile

We are looking to add a child/children between the ages of 4 and 12. We are open to a boy or a sibling group of boys of any ethnic background. There is no problem maintaining contact with the child\'s biological parents (by email or by phone or by mail or in person ) or any other important individual in the child's life. We are looking for a child that will fit in with our current family, one that is interested in learning new things, is active and not afraid to try new things.

Introduction

My name is Henry Matthews III. I am currently 46 years old and was born in California. I am currently a Middle School English Teacher. I have a 16 year old son, Dameon, who I have adopted and he is currently a sophomore in High School. We have two dogs, Kuma-san and Skye. We enjoy travel, cooking, reading, listening to music, movies, going out to cultural events, hiking, walking, paintball, cards, board games and video games.

Home and Community

We live in Mesa, Arizona in a single family home. Our house has 4 bedrooms, a large backyard and a pool. There are a lot of children who live on our street and there are several good local schools. There are a few parks in the neighborhood, a YMCA not far away and there are various sports leagues in the area. I work at an elementary/middle school, and depending on the age of the child, they will be attending that school.

Parenting Experience

I have had my son now for four years, and prior to that I was a foster parent. I have been a teacher for 11 years, and have taught grades 6-12. I have also worked for a behavioral health agency that focused mainly on teens and preteens.

Support

I have a large extended family in Arizona as well as several close friends. I am willing to turn to experts if situations arise where I need help

Motivation to Adopt

I am not sure that there is anything that could disrupt a child in my home. The key will be to ensure that any child that joins our family will fit in with my son and that they will get along. In general, once I commit to something, I do not give up, so I do not expect any problems because I hope to find a child who will work with our family by looking at the available information prior to having them come to our home.
