The Shahan Family Profile
We would like to adopt a child who is less than 5 years old, but we are open to a wider age range if child is part of a sibling group, gender is irrelevant.We feel we can accommodate a sibling group of up to 5 kids.
We prefer to adopt a child of Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, Native american, Pacific islander, Biracial or Mixed ethnic background. We are open to children with special needs, but do not require a stay at home parent.
We do not mind having contact with the child\'s biological parents (by email or by mail ) or foster parents provided contact is beneficial to the child.
In general, a child that loves being outside and having a close-knit family. A child that attaches and is good with animals.Introduction
Our names are Amelia and Denis Shahan.
I am currently 35 years old. My husband is currently 38 years old. We have one child. Her name is Gabrial Shahan and she is 17 years old.
I enjoy cooking, reading and outside activities such as gardening fishing and camping. Gabby enjoys sports and reading. Denis enjoys anything outside and helping coach softball.
I work full-time as a Director at my Childcare Center and have a flexible work schedule.
My husband works from home as a woodworker and Farmer and has a flexible work schedule.
We are Christian. The children attend youth and we go to church on occasion. We maintain strong ties with our church family.
Our daily routine is the typical day. Get home from work, do homework, chores, dinner and relax with a hobby or tv. |
Home and Community
We live in the State of Missouri. Our home is a older 2 story home with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, which we own outright. We live in a rural neighborhood. and are close with our neighbors. We have 3 dogs , 2 cats, goats, sheep, chickens and rabbits.
We like to go fishing, swimming and camping as a family. We also like to go to the movies and take drives to go shopping in bigger towns.
We have many team sports, FFA, youth groups and local celebrations. There is one school in our county.
Parenting Experience
We have raised one daughter and have been fostering for two years. We have been trained in conscious discipline and use it in our home. We are open and always available to our children.
We are a very close family, including our extended family. We have been together for many years and have a solid relationship. We think we also have good communication with our daughter
We continually seek trainings, due to work. We have completed 12 training hours per year for the last 6 years. The trainings cover behaviors, CPR, classroom management and other related areas.

Support
We attend all available trainings in our area. We have a lot of close family and friends to help us as needed. Motivation to Adopt
We are still relatively young and will have a child leaving for college in the next year. Due to female infertility, we chose to adopt. We have had children reunify and support that process, but it is time for us to grow our family. Gabby has three younger brothers from her biological mom, and we want to be able to give her siblings in our home as well. We want to be able to give a child a safe and stable home that they may not already have. We want to give them family.
