Family Description

My name is Henry and my family consists of myself, my son and our dogs Kuma-san and Skye. We live in Mesa, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. We Live in a fairly large, four bedroom, two bath house with a large backyard with a pool. The street is a quiet neighborhood which has several young families with children ranging in age from around four to teenagers. I am a teacher, currently middle school English, and I have taught many different subjects ranging from History to Economics to Biology. I currently work at a school on a local Indian Reservation. I have coached many sports as well as other activities such as debate and robotics. I love to read and always have some sort of book open. I enjoy historical fiction, science fiction, and drama, as well as various science and history books. I really like cooking and going out to eat. I enjoy trying out and experiencing new things, whether it is new restaurants and cuisines or traveling to visit new places. I like going to museums, national parks, cultural attractions and amusement parks. I enjoy learning and knowledge for knowledge's sake. I keep somewhat active, walking my dog cider daily, going for walks and playing racquetball and paintball. I don’t really watch much television, though there are a few shows whose seasons I will stream. I do love watching movies, both at home and going out to the theater. I am also a big gamer. I play card games with my extended family and enjoy playing board games, video games and sports. I prefer to play and compete in person rather than just be a spectator so I do not watch sports on TV. My son Dameon enjoys hanging out with his friends, swimming, riding his bike, spending time on social media and playing games, especially video games. We travel as a family and visit many interesting places.

Preference Description

I think a child that was interested in learning, active, and not afraid to try new things would do best in my home.

The Matthews- Family Profile

We are looking to add a child/children between the ages of 4 and 12. We are open to a boy or a sibling group of boys of any ethnic background. There is no problem maintaining contact with the child\'s biological parents (by email or by phone or by mail or in person ) or any other important individual in the child's life. We are looking for a child that will fit in with our current family, one that is interested in learning new things, is active and not afraid to try new things.

Introduction

My name is Henry Matthews III. I am currently 46 years old and was born in California. I am currently a Middle School English Teacher. I have a 16 year old son, Dameon, who I have adopted and he is currently a sophomore in High School. We have two dogs, Kuma-san and Skye. We enjoy travel, cooking, reading, listening to music, movies, going out to cultural events, hiking, walking, paintball, cards, board games and video games.

Home and Community

We live in Mesa, Arizona in a single family home. Our house has 4 bedrooms, a large backyard and a pool. There are a lot of children who live on our street and there are several good local schools. There are a few parks in the neighborhood, a YMCA not far away and there are various sports leagues in the area. I work at an elementary/middle school, and depending on the age of the child, they will be attending that school.

Parenting Experience

I have had my son now for four years, and prior to that I was a foster parent. I have been a teacher for 11 years, and have taught grades 6-12. I have also worked for a behavioral health agency that focused mainly on teens and preteens.

Support

I have a large extended family in Arizona as well as several close friends. I am willing to turn to experts if situations arise where I need help

Motivation to Adopt

I am not sure that there is anything that could disrupt a child in my home. The key will be to ensure that any child that joins our family will fit in with my son and that they will get along. In general, once I commit to something, I do not give up, so I do not expect any problems because I hope to find a child who will work with our family by looking at the available information prior to having them come to our home.
