Preference Description
We are open to children with any special needs. These needs can be emotional and/or physical. We are open to adopting children with mild-severe emotional needs and mild-moderate physical needs.
Child Preferences
We are open to adopt a sibling group of two, three, or four either male of female from infant to ten years of age. We are very open to a variety of special needs - emotional needs ranging from mild-severe and medical needs ranging from mild-moderate. We are also excited about the possibility of an open adoption and having a relationship with the birth family. We understand that is is important and very beneficial to the children for many reasons.
Introduction
We currently have no children - besides our German Shepherd and cat :). Jack is an assistant athletic director and women's soccer and basketball coach at a local Christian college. His place of employment is very family-centered which makes it possible for him to be flexible and available when needed. Lindsie is able to teach elementary school online with the flexibility of being at home. We love coaching, watching, and participating in athletics. We enjoy being active outdoors - bike rides, camping, being at the lake, bonfires, and walking the dog. We also enjoy working on our home, being active in our church, visiting family, and being at home together. Church is very important to us. We attend every Sunday and Wednesday as faithful as possible. We have an incredible support network within our church. We also love that there are so many children and families in all stages of life that are included within the church. Also, as stated earlier, Jack's employment is not just a job - it is part of our community and life in so many ways and we love it! We are so grateful that we can be involved in athletics and the lives of young people on a daily basis.
Home and Community
We know what usually comes to mind when someone thinks of Iowa :) And growing up in the city, we never thought we would move down here - but we absolutely love it! We live on an acre lot in a 3 bedroom, almost 2 bathroom Ranch style home. The city we live in is the perfect combination of small town charm with big city conveniences. There are always activities going on and opportunities for children of all ages to participate in throughout the year. We have bike trails, a huge number of parks, city pool, sport camps (which Jack helps manage), as well as lessons, clubs, and events for all interests. The school district is also incredible. One of the best parts of our home/life/community is that it is filled with college-aged young people. We moved to Iowa because Jack got a full-time job doing what he loves - coaching and ministering to college students, and we praise the Lord for such an awesome opportunity. Whether it is helping them on the court and field, counseling them in their daily lives, or just having them over for a bonfire or to watch a basketball game on television, they are such a wonderful blessing in so many ways. Whether it be in our home, the community, church, school, or from people we know, our children will be able to stay connected to their cultural background. This is something we will consistently make an effort to maintain throughout their growing up years.
Parenting Experience
Lindsie has worked as a full-time elementary teacher, coach, babysitter, camp counselor, daycare teacher, mentor, nursery worker, and children's church teacher. Jack has worked as a coach, sport's camp leader, babysitter, AWANA games instructor, and mentor. We also love being an aunt and uncle to our precious nieces and nephews. We are thankful for the experience and training we have had with children as well as with many unique and individual special needs. We also know it is important to prepare for adoption. Because of this, we have researched online, participated in webinars, spoken with people, and read books.
Support
We have an incredible support network! We have the encouragement from both of our families, friends, co-workers, and church. We could not be more thankful for the amount of love, support, and encouragement we have from so many people.
Motivation to Adopt
Adopting is a lifetime commitment to a child to provide a loving, secure, stable home. We understand that it will not always be easy, and that we will need to prove our love and promise to them, but we are fully committed to do so. Our love for them is not dependent on their love towards us. Every child deserves to feel safe and have the promise of a forever family - we desire to provide this for a child/children. Our love will be unconditional and our home will be safe, stable, and fun.
