Family Description

Darryl and I have been together for 16 years and married for 10 (as of this April). We both grew up in south Florida and decided to move to North Carolina after I finished nursing school in 2006. We love where we live. We feel like we are in the country with rolling hills, cows grazing, and corn fields, but are only a few minutes' drive from civilization. Darryl has been at Compass Group for about 9 years as a computer programmer/software engineer and I have been a nurse in the NICU at Levine Childrens Hospital in Charlotte for 9 years also. I am currently working on my Masters Degree to become a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. I have taken a weekend night position to accommodate my required clinical days starting in the summer; as this will allow a more structured schedule and not interfere with weekdays until I am finished with school. Darryl is also working on his Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. Darryl is a techie. He loves video games and sci-fi movies. However, he has also become an accomplished wood worker. I like to spend time with friends and family and I like movies of all kinds We love animated movies and watch most of them with our daughter. We had out daughter, Addison in May of 2008. I was 39 at the time. We talked about having another biological child but because of my age and the postpartum depression that I went through (and was successfully treated for) we decided against it. We really want her to have a sister. SHE really wants a sister. We would love to adopt a girl who is close to her age. Addison is very excited about the prospect of having a sister to play with and hang out with. Darryl and I are both only children and we would love for Addie to have the experience of a sibling relationship. We went through our county Department of Social Services because we wanted to provide a loving home to a child that may not have had one. In our home, we have 3 cats and a dog, 2 guinea pigs and a lizard. Addison LOVES creatures of all kinds'especially reptiles, amphibians, and insects! She loves Disney princesses as well...a multi-faceted personality, I guess you could say. She is a very loving girl; has a great sense of right and wrong and a silly sense of humor. She cannot wait to have a sister to love. We, as a family have been going through this process for a few years now but we are patient. We know our daughter is out there. We just haven't found her yet.

Preference Description

We would prefer a girl with very mild-no developmental, emotional, physical disabilities. We want to be honest about what we know we can handle.

The Neuschafer Family Profile

We are searching for a girl that is between the ages of 5 and 7 years old. We would prefer a single child but race is not an issue for us. We are very open-minded about religion, relationships, etc... and will support the child if they would like to attend church, spend time with their birth parents, family, etc...

Introduction

Our names are Darryl, Tiffany, and Addison Neuschafer. Darryl works for a large food service company and is a Senior Software Engineer. Tiffany works as a Registered Nurse, in the NICU, at the Levine Children's Hospital.

Darryl and Tiffany love spending time with their family, whether we are just hanging out at home, spending the day at Discovery Place, or visiting one of the many beautiful parks in North Carolina. Darryl also likes archery, mountain biking, and fine wood working. Tiffany is currently attending Drexel University to obtain her Masters in Nursing and is planning on working in women's health. Tiffany is into exercising, woodturning, and gardening.

Home and Community

We live in a beautiful neighborhood called Briarcrest which is located in Waxhaw. We have lived in Briarcrest for almost 9 years and the neighborhood is very active with many social events such as Easter egg hunts, Halloween parties, etc... Addison attends 1st grade at Western Union Elementary school which is also located Waxhaw. She loves her teacher, Ms. Keller, and also loves the school itself. Addison has many friends at school and she also participates in Girl Scouts.

Parenting Experience

The most experience we have with children is raising our wonderful daughter Addison. Tiffany also has a lot of experience working with babies, along with their parents, as she deals with both when working at the hospital. I feel that we are both fun-loving parents who are young at heart. That being said, we have always embraced the children of our friends and family and would always offer any help if needed. Tiffany and I have also taken the MAPP class at DSS where we learned a lot about children in foster care and some of the challenges with fostering/adoption. This class was excellent and it really helped us in deciding what challenges we can handle and what type of children we are really looking for when adopting.

Support

We have a network of close friends and family who are aware that we are adopting and have been very supportive. Tiffany and I don't have much family that is still alive but the little family we do have, are great and are willing to help us out in anyway possible. Most of our close friends are considered "family" to us and they will also help us out to best of their ability.

Motivation to Adopt

We are strongly motivated to have another child in our family. We want our daughter to have a sister and we want to provide a loving and supportive home to a child in need. We understand that there will most likely be some challenges but we are committed to working with our social worker and all of the resources made available to us and the children in order to achieve a successful adoption with a child who belongs in our family. This is the ultimate goal that we have been working toward for some time now and as we are on the cusp of registering with the MAP program, we are more excited than ever!
