Family Description
Kevin and I have known each other for 10 years, together for six and half, and married for 4 and half years. I have known since I was young that I would not be able to have my own children, due to my congenital heart condition. We are committed to our marriage and each other. We have faced many life challenges from being laid off at work, dealing with my pacemaker surgery, three months before our wedding, and not being able to have children. Kevin and I face everything together, as a team. With every challenge that my husband and I have gone through, it has only brought us closer together and strengthens our marriage. My husband and I have prayed about if adoption was the plan for our lives. We feel strongly about adoption and feel that adoption will make our dreams of having a family, a reality. We know in the beginning there will be an adjustment period, where we all get to know each other. It will change the dynamics of our family, but in a wonderful way. We ultimately want to provide a safe, loving, stable, and nurturing environment for our children. Children need love and stability to grow and thrive. We want our children to thrive. We want our children to always know that they are loved, wanted, and above all else, that we are a family.
The West Family Profile
We are opened to a child, between the ages of newborn-two years old. We are open to a boy or girl. We feel we can accommodate a sibling group of up to 2 kids, but would prefer just one child. We are hoping to adopt a child of Caucasian ethnic background.
About us
Hello, we are Kevin and Amber West. We are honored to be sharing our story with you. Hopefully we can provide you with a snapshot of our life and what we can offer to a child. We have been married for 4 and half years. My name is Amber and I am 27 years old. I am currently a Pre-Kindergarten teacher. I have taught for the past eight years. I absolutely love my job! I have the amazing opportunity of teaching Pre-K, at the same elementary school that I went too. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, crafting, spending time with husband, and going to the beach. My husband, Kevin, is 28 years old and works full-time for Camp Blanding: Army Base, as an Administrative Assistant. Kevin loves his work and hopes to someday be a supervisor in his division at Camp Blanding. Kevin enjoys watching and coaching sports. He plans to share his love of sports with our children. Kevin enjoys playing video games competitively, watching funny movies, making people smile, and laugh. We are a Christian family. Our faith is very important to us. We enjoy going to church and our church, has a great children's program. We do not have any children. We unfortunately, cannot have our own children. We have so much love to give to a child; we cannot wait to be parents.
Our home
We live in Keystone Heights, Florida, which is about 30 minutes outside of Gainesville. We live in a very small community. My husband and I both grew up in this small town. It is a great place to grow up. Our family is very close. We enjoy spending time together. Both sets of grandparents live nearby, as well aunts, uncles, and cousins. We couldn't imagine raising our family anywhere else! We have two pets, a dog and a cat. Our dog's name is Penny; she is very playful and loves everyone that she meets. Our cat, Callie, keeps to herself. She likes to look out the window for birds and sleep all day! We enjoy being together as a family. Some of our favorite things to do together are spend time with family/friends, play mini golf, going bowling, swimming, and going to the beach. We love laughing and making each other laugh. We are very laid back family and really enjoy just being together.
Parenting Experience
My husband and I are very close with our nieces' and nephew. We love to babysit them, whenever we can. We are looking forward to our children playing with their cousins. I have been working with children since I was 15. I volunteered in my church nursery in high school and taught Vacation Bible School, during the summer. I worked with ages infant-two year olds at a local daycare for seven years. While attending college, for my degree in Elementary education, I interned in Kindergarten and First grade. I am now teaching Pre-Kindergarten. I feel that my teaching experience, has taught myself a lot about parenting. My husband is great with kids. He coached our two oldest nieces in soccer. He has enjoyed being able to coach/teach kids the value of teamwork. He also babysat our niece and nephew when they were infants. Our nieces and nephew adore their Uncle Kevin. We have only attended our PRIDE certification class, which was an amazing learning experience. It taught us a lot.
Support
My husband and I are very close with our family. We have a great support system. Our support system includes my parents, Kevin's mother, my brothers, sister in law, our employers/co-workers, friends, and our church. In addition to our family and friends support, we will also have the support of Children's Home Society of Florida. They are great about providing help and guidance for adoptive families
